The Multi-Faith Chapel is a purpose-designed, single-storey building that provides a dedicated place for reflection, worship and gathering within the broader aged care community.
Designed to accommodate both larger services of up to 50 people and more intimate moments of contemplation, the building offers a welcoming and supportive environment that promotes comfort, connection and spiritual wellbeing.
The architectural form draws inspiration from the gabled roofs of the surrounding cottages, creating a visual relationship with the existing campus while establishing a distinct identity. By responding to the site’s natural slope, the design achieves a heightened presence within the predominantly single-storey setting. Carefully articulated roof forms and angled building elements guide visitors towards the entrance, strengthening wayfinding and improving accessibility for all users, particularly residents living with dementia.
At the heart of the building, the chapel space is characterised by a generous volume and elevated ceilings that convey a sense of calm, dignity and contemplation. The restrained architectural expression creates a peaceful atmosphere suited to a range of faith traditions, while fostering a sense of solace and belonging for individuals, families and caregivers alike.
Positioned alongside an existing gallery building, the centre has been carefully sited to maximise adjacent landscaped areas and strengthen connections to the surrounding outdoor environment. The project replaces a previously used chapel space located within a heritage-listed hall that was difficult to locate and navigate, providing a purpose-built and easily accessible destination that better supports the needs of residents, visitors and staff. Through thoughtful planning and design, the Multi-Faith Chapel enhances the campus experience and delivers an important new community asset that supports spiritual care, inclusion and wellbeing.
