MAY 2023

HammondCare Daw Park is one of two locations that are hosting a Dementia Design School by The Dementia Centre and HammondCare.

This two-day, interactive course showcases essential knowledge and tools to assess how supportive a space is for people living with dementia. It is a unique opportunity to experience the cottage-style model of care first introduced by HammondCare in 1996.

Design has a powerful impact on how we perceive the world around us. For people living with dementia, good design can improve quality of life by making the world easier to navigate. It can help to overcome some common challenges like changes in perception and loss of motor ability and cognitive function.

There are two coming up – one in June at Hammondville, the home of Australia’s first dementia cottage, and the other in August at HammondCare Daw Park, the brand-new purpose-built dementia village at in Adelaide, which we are proud to have overseen the architecture, interior design and project management for.
